Common Treatment Areas

Pregnancy Check

You don’t have to wait until after birth to address your pelvic floor. Whether you experience symptoms or not, many women find it beneficial to have a pelvic floor muscle ‘check’ in pregnancy to better prepare for birth and postpartum.

A pregnancy check includes:

  • Discussion of your concerns and short and long-term goals.

  • Thorough review of your medical history and pregnancy so far.

  • Assessment of your posture, breathing, movement, and any musculoskeletal issues that have arisen in pregnancy.

  • Internal vaginal exam to ensure your pelvic floor muscles can contract and relax symmetrically through their full range of motion.

  • A customised care plan tailored to your individual needs and goals.

Your care plan may include:

  • Education regarding the preparation of your pelvic floor and body for both vaginal and caesarean births.

  • Pelvic floor exercises to lengthen or strengthen your muscles.

  • Guidance on breathing, birthing positions and effective pushing techniques.

  • Perineal massage and using devices to reduce the risk of episiotomies and tears.
